Writing mythological fiction is like walking over the rope. This is the exact place where Amish Tripathi sucked in Scion of Ikshvaku. The author has done a terrific job in character building. Set in post Mahabharata era, the story focusses on brave Aryan king fighting the Arabian tribe invasions. This book - Gondwana Chronicles-1 has it all that is needed for a successful mythological fiction. While the authors could come up with page turning fictions on their Cindrella & Rapuznel, I used to wonder why are there not many fictions based on our rich Indian mythologies. īook Review: The genius of Indraprastha by Harshwardhan. And it's slightly annoying when they tout the same old thing as a "fresh" perspective, every single time.(And this applies to most mythological retellings, not just Amish's books) He sure as anything is trying to go for something new while sticking to the safe path but that's kinda off-putting for someone who desires something avant-garde. The genre he's working with is still quite untested as an arena in India, it involves substantial risk. And I don't really blame the author for that. It often feels like some stereotypical fantasy retelling with the same stock characters with a sprinkle of south Asian culture into them. the author doesn't venture too far from the tested path. It's just that in whatever sphere it is- research or creative elements, characterization, world-building etc. I won't deny that the author tries to incorporate creative elements or venture into the unknown territory. They're kind of tropey and clichéd, for me. It's just that they're not exactly my cup of tea.
